Meet our Head Distiller CALEY SHOEMAKER

Caley is responsible for overseeing all phases of our production. She is one of a handful of female distillers to lead operations for a major American spirits brand. Caley joins us from Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey, where she quickly worked her way up under Head Distiller Rob Dietrich’s wing. Caley immersed herself in every aspect of the production process, from the sourcing of grains to distillation and bottling. As she leads Hangar 1 Vodka into its next phase, Caley is excited to test out limited batches and new flavors of vodka with the hangar’s pilot still. Caley describes herself as a “spirits nerd” and is fascinated by how the chemistry of distilling affects the quality, texture and flavor of the final product. She is endlessly inspired by the area’s abundant seasonal ingredients. When she’s not visiting local farmers’ markets, Caley can be found honing her photography skills or experimenting with new cocktail recipes.

Straight is a special blend of distilled grains and California wine grapes. Our flavored varieties are made using only natural flavors and a painstakingly, unique infusion process. Our Alameda distillery uses copper pot stills with two reflux columns custom made for Hangar 1 so that Caley can run the appropriate batch size to achieve the highest quality distillation possible for a crisp fresh tasting vodka.

In 2001 Hangar 1 was established in a WWII aircraft hangar on the Alameda Naval Air Station, a space we still call our home today. The red biplane symbol is a nod to our history and we are named for the Hangar we are created in, Hangar 1. Hangar 1 is our hub of innovation and where we use the freshest ingredients, in fact we are upgrading our space a bit and will be ready for tours, tastings and much more later this year so if you’re in area be sure to some and visit us.

  • Know what flavors the account carries and if there are any signature drinks from the cocktail menu
  • Encourage consumers to check out digital and Ibotta
  • Take pictures of consumers, staff and yourselves
  • Educate consumers & execute sampling mechanic in an impactful way
  • TAKE YOUR TIME
  • Make all POS last through the end of the promotion
  • Thank the manager & staff with gate keeper items
  • Clean up area they are working in and leave the account immediately
  • Complete the event recap form

NEVER EVER:

  • Eat or drink anything at a promotion (water is acceptable)
  • Be sitting at a promotion
  • Be rude to bar/Store manager and/or staff
  • Talk about the staff to another model in a derogatory way
  • Stay at an account after the promotion while still in uniform
  • Promote another brand while working a promotion for Hangar 1
  • Arrive at an account late or leave an account before the end of an event
  • Accept tips from consumers; turn over any tips to bartenders immediately
  • Lie. If you are asked a question and you don’t know the answer, simply say “I don’t know” or “I’m not sure” and try to find the answer
  • Talk negatively about competitive products
  • Chew gum or use cell phone
  • Drink alcohol of any kind at any promotion

OFF PREMISE

Allow consumers to experience locally crafted Hangar 1 Vodka and entice them to repeat purchase. Dress their Drink with a candied viola from the Hangar 1 garnish box. Base Brand is the focus with Mandarin as a secondary option.

Execution

  • Models will offer samples of a 2 ingredient cocktail garnished with a custom Viola in an 8oz mason jar with a clear straw using club soda and Hangar 1 ONLY
  • Ice bucket with ice and cocktail napkins are available.
  • Use scissors to cut open viola pack and add the viola to their sample.
  • Do not touch the viola, only let the customer touch it and do not let the “fresh” pack fall into the sample
  • Try to limit one viola per customer
  • No more than a 3/4 ounce sample of Hangar 1 Vodka, mixer pour should be equal to or less than the spirit sample
  • Serve the sample in the mason jar and allow them to take the mason jar home after sampling the product.
  • Clear straws are available for sipping sample from Mason Jar
  • The sunglasses are for gatekeepers ONLY – Store owners, managers and employees
  • Remember to return your return shipper with the return items packed neatly in the box

  • Arrive to each event 15 minutes early. Punctuality is expected
  • Text your manager upon arrival to confirm that you have arrived on site
  • Check in with MOD when you arrive to introduce yourself and gather all needed supplies that the store is providing for you
  • Begin set up of your sampling area
  • Engage customers and educate them on Hangar 1 by providing tasting samples, passing out provided pamphlets and using your brand knowledge
  • Encourage and drive sales
  • Create lasting impressions with each customer
  • After sampling is over, you are responsible for cleaning up your own area, returning all store provided supplies and following up with store manager to gather number of bottles sold and current inventory

Allow consumers to experience locally crafted Hangar One Vodka and entice them to repeat purchase. Offer them samples of Hangar 1 Vodka (limit one ounce per sample) and allow them to Dress their Drink with a custom garnish from the Hangar 1 garnish box. Base Brand is the focus with Mandarin as a secondary option.

Execution

  • Model 1 will offer samples of a Hangar 1 cocktail (of the accounts choice) serve samples in 8oz mason jar with a clear straw
  • Model 2 will offer custom garnishes from the Garnish Box, consumer can choose one of four custom garnishes (see grid for Garnish information)
  • To fill garnish box put one type of garnish into each of the 4 compartments
  • Use scissors to cut open garnish pack and add it to the cocktail. Do not touch the garnish with your hands, only let the customer touch it and do not let the “fresh” pack fall into the sample
  • Try to limit one garnish per customer
  • No more than a 2 oz sample of total cocktail
  • Serve the sample in the mason jar for the consumer and offer them to keep the mason jar and take it home.
  • Clear straws are available for sipping sample from Mason Jar, use straws provided if account has black straws
  • The sunglasses are for gatekeepers ONLY – Account owners, managers and bartenders
